2018 Taiwan International Children's Film Festival announces its opening and closing films. The Breadwinner, the nominee of Academy Award and Golden Globe, is the opening film, while ECFA winner The Day My Father Became A Bush will be the closing film. Both film screenings will be Taiwan premieres.
The Breadwinner is Nora Twomey's latest film. Based on the best-selling novel by Deborah Ellis, the story tells about Parvana, an 11-year-old girl in Afghanistan. When her father is arrested by the Taliban, Parvana has to disguise as a boy to care for her family. It is an inspiring story how one faces adversity head-on.
Executive produced by Angelina Jolie, The Breadwinner also won the Best Independent Feature at Annie Awards.
Based on the book by award-winning author Joke van Leeuwen, The Day My Father Became A Bush is directed by Nicole van Kilsdonk, applies a childlike sensibility to this story of a 10-year-old girl whose life is upended by the sudden outbreak of war.
The festival also announces the last addition to the International Competition. The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales..., an animation directed by Benjamin Renner and Patrick Imbert, will compete for the Best Animation Feature. Adapted from Renner's own books Le grand méchant renard and Un bébé à livrer, this film includes three segments of hilarious stories of animals in a farm.
